Shicheng Village (石城村), nestled in the enchanting landscapes of Wuyuan County, is a must-visit destination in autumn. Known for its fiery red maple leaves, morning mist, and charming traditional architecture with black tiles and white walls, Shicheng is a photographer’s paradise. The interplay of sunlight and mist creates a dreamlike “Dali Garden” effect, making it one of the most picturesque spots to enjoy the beauty of autumn in Wuyuan. If you’re planning an autumn trip, here’s everything you need to know to capture the magic of Shicheng.
Best Time to Visit
Shicheng’s red maples reach their peak viewing period starting in early November. The best time to witness this spectacle is between November 10th and 20th, although this window may shift slightly depending on the weather. For morning mist and sunrise photography, plan to visit between 5:00 AM and 9:00 AM.
Ticket Information
Admission to Shicheng Village costs ¥60. However, if you’ve purchased a Wuyuan Tourist Pass, it includes entry to Shicheng, so there’s no need for an additional ticket.
Photography Tips
- Shicheng consists of two villages: Chengcun (程村) and Daicun (戴村). For the best shots of Chengcun, head to the stone mountain viewing platform in Daicun.
- During sunset, reverse the locations to capture Daicun from Chengcun.
- If you stay overnight in either Chengcun or Daicun, most of the scenic views you’ll capture will be of Chengcun. The viewing platform offers various levels, so explore both sides to find unique perspectives.
- As the sun rises, move your position gradually from right to left. The angled sunlight is ideal for capturing light beams.
- Suggested camera settings: Aperture f/8–f/11, ISO 400, and a shutter speed of 1/500.
How to Get to Shicheng Village
- Self-Drive: Renting a car is the most convenient option, as Shicheng is about a 1.2-hour drive from Wuyuan County. If departing on the same day, plan to leave Wuyuan at 5:00 AM. Rental costs are around ¥300–400 per day.
